Aggo

Aggo is a Dothraki archer, one of the four young warriors assigned to Daenerys Targaryen's personal guard, her khas, after her marriage to Khal Drogo. He is distinguished by his skill with the bow and his quiet, watchful presence. Throughout the journey across the Dothraki sea and the events in Vaes Dothrak, Aggo serves as a protector and enforcer of Daenerys's commands, though his loyalty is initially bound to the khal and the traditions of his people rather than to the khaleesi herself.

Role in the Khalasar and the Khas

Aggo is first seen as part of Daenerys's khas, riding behind her and Viserys as they enter Vaes Dothrak. He is a silent, watchful figure, one of the "young archers" who are "fluid as centaurs." His primary duty is to protect the khaleesi, a role he takes seriously. When Viserys, in a drunken rage, draws a sword in the sacred city—a grave violation of Dothraki law—Aggo is among those who witness the confrontation. Later, when Daenerys commands her khas to stop the rape of a Lhazareen woman, Aggo is one of the warriors who obeys, killing a Dothraki rider who refuses to comply. This act demonstrates his willingness to follow Daenerys's orders, even when they contradict the brutal customs of war.

Loyalty and the Breaking of the Khalasar

After Khal Drogo's wound festers and he falls from his horse, the khalasar begins to dissolve. Aggo remains with Daenerys when others, like Ko Pono and Ko Jhaqo, leave to form their own khalasars. He is one of the few who stay, telling her, "The old remain. The frightened, the weak, and the sick. And we who swore. We remain." This declaration marks a shift in his loyalty from the khal to the khaleesi herself. When Daenerys attempts to name him a ko (a war chief) and asks for his oath as "blood of my blood," Aggo initially refuses, stating, "I cannot say these words. Only a man can lead a khalasar or name a ko." This refusal highlights the deep-seated gender roles within Dothraki society, which Aggo is not yet ready to abandon.

Acceptance of Daenerys as Leader

Despite his initial refusal, Aggo's actions speak louder than his words. He remains by Daenerys's side through the darkest hours, including the death of her son Rhaego and the final decline of Khal Drogo. He helps build the funeral pyre and witnesses the miraculous birth of the dragons. When Daenerys emerges from the flames, unharmed and with three newborn dragons, Aggo is among the first to kneel. He lays his arakh at her feet and murmurs, "Blood of my blood," finally accepting her as his leader. This act of submission, using the sacred phrase of a bloodrider, signifies his complete and final transfer of loyalty. Aggo's journey is one of a traditional Dothraki warrior who, through witnessing Daenerys's strength and resilience, overcomes his own cultural prejudices to swear fealty to a woman as his khaleesi and queen.
